13˚ 60˚ 104˚ decanter
Some say that in the upright position at 13 degrees, the decanter starts the evening sober.

As the night progresses, at 60 degrees, it is a bit tipsy.

At 104 degrees the downward position reflects progress of the evening's conversation and suggests that the decanter is ready for a refill.

Gauge vase
The Gauge vase takes on the behaviour of the flower. The weight of the water holds the vase upright.

The vase ‘wilts’ as the flower drinks the water, letting us know that it needs a top-up.

Rise and Fall of a Candle
The timepiece allows the operator to determine when the flame will be extinguished by adjusting the amount of water poured into the holder.

As the candle gets shorter its bottom end rises upwards to a point where a constraint is no longer effective, and the candle falls over onto its side, extinguishing itself in the water.

BOROSILICATE GLASS
Borosilicate objects are free blown on a lathe in editions of 20 by a lamp worker, using the same techniques as a scientific laboratory glassware maker, who would normally blow chemistry apparatus.

Borosilicate glass is more resistant to thermal shock than other glass. Borosilicate is referred to as 'hard glass' and has a higher melting point (approximately 1650 degrees Celsius) than 'soft glass'.

Dyslexic Design
In 2016, Jim curated the exhibition Dyslexic Design. Working in collaboration with Ab Rogers, the show challenged perceptions of dyslexia by accentuating its positive effects and its close association with design. The exhibition is a Silver Winner in the London Design Awards. It was also nominated for the iF Social Impact Prize 2017 for Health & Demographic Change. Many consider Jim's work to be a symbol of the gifts that dyslexia can bring.
'It is my belief that I am able to design the way I do because of my dyslexia and not despite it.'
- Jim Rokos
